Part 2 of the 45th anniversary of “The Beatles” (known as the White Album) is featured on this week’s edition of In The Studio.

The band’s 1968 double album was written and recorded during a period of turmoil for the group, after visiting the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India and having a particularly productive songwriting session in early 1968.

Returning to the studio, the group recorded from May to October 1968, only to have conflict and dissent drive the group members apart. Ringo Starr quit the band for a brief time, leaving Paul McCartney to play drums on two tracks...

According to a couple interviews, there’s been some movement on the TOOL front regarding the band’s long-awaited fifth studio album. The person inside the TOOL circle who usually posts news at the band’s official web site has published a somewhat lengthy new update, in which he writes, “A couple of weeks ago I visited the TOOL loft to try and get some kind of idea as to how things were progressing with the writing sessions now that the band was back hard at it. Well, I am happy to report that there has indeed been a lot of progress as far as new material goes, especially with the lengthy so-called ‘epic’ piece that the guys have been arranging for quite some time now.”

Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth “K.K.” Downing, who turned 62 on October 27th, has posted the following message on his official web site, http://www.kkdowning.net:

“Well, it’s that time again! Another birthday comes around! All of you that were there with me in the late Sixties, Seventies and onwards will know what I mean.

Isn’t it crazy that Mick Jagger is 70, for example? And Jimi Hendrix would also have been 70 this year?

Anyway, not to be too down about it, because at least we were there to witness everything that is relevant to the music that we know and love today.

I always say that I couldn’t have been born at a better time. I was just in my early teens when John Mayall, CREAM and all of the early blues artists were jus...

Written by Jesse Fink, “The Youngs” sees important figures from AC/DC’s long way to the top open up for the very first time, while unsung heroes behind the band’s success are given the credit they are due.

Former AC/DC members and...

KILLER BE KILLED has aligned with Nuclear Blast Entertainment to release the group’s debut record in 2014. The mystique-fogged collection is the result of writing sessions, creative and philosophical conversations and an eventual studio lockdown in Los Angeles. All of this has been heretofore hidden from the public, save for interview tidbits that relentlessly drove the heavy music community’s anticipation to a fever pitch.

KILLER BE KILLED is comprised of guitarists Max Cavalera and Greg Puciato, bassist Troy Sanders — all of whom share vocal duties — together with drummer David Elitch. The album was produced/mixed by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Gojira, Steve Earle).

“It’s a bit of Sabbath-y doom, a bit of thrash, a bit of hardcore ...
