Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of Metal Assault recently conducted an interview with legendary extreme-metal drummer Gene Hoglan (Testament, Death, Strapping Young Lad, Dark Angel, Dethklock).

Metal Assault: Coming to your “Gene Hoglan Experience” stuff that you’ve been doing, I think you’ve done one show so far in Calgary. What was that like and people who’re going to see the shows in the coming few days, what can they expect from this event?

Hoglan: A whole lot of fun! That’s one thing I try to bring — a real sense of fun — and this thing kind of borders on stand-up comedy for me, because everything I do is completely ad-lib...

Peter Hodgson of Gibson.com recently conducted an interview with Sammy Hagar (Chickenfoot, Van Halen). An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Gibson.com: I’ve always wanted to ask you how you rank yourself as a guitarist. It takes balls to stand up there with Eddie Van Halen or Joe Satriani. I’ve been lucky to jam with Satriani and Vai, and to a certain point it’s intimidating but also at a certain point you’ve just got to tell yourself “Screw it, this is what I do.”

Sammy: I’m a little bit intimidated if we go too long, but in Chickenfoot and Van Halen, I just put the guitar on and got a big cheer always, and then I’d burn for a little bit and then take it back off before I ran out of chops, y’know? I rate myself as a guy that can pl...

Kurt-Cobain2013

The house where rock legend Kurt Cobain grew up is to go on sale for $500,000.

The white wood bungalow, in Aberdeen, Washington is being put on the market by his mother Wendy O’Connor, who has kept hold of the property despite previously moving out of the state.

Several famous photos of Cobain as a child and a teenager – including an iconic image of his early days playing guitar – were taken at the home, and his family is hoping the property will be preserved as a museum dedicated to the Nirvana star.

The rocker’s sister, Kim Cobain, says, “We’ve decided to sell the home to create a legacy for Kurt, and yes, there are some mixed feelings since we have all loved the home and it carries so many great memories...
