Supergroup of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and members of Rage Against the Machine perform together for first time in nearly 12 years
Audioslave, the supergroup featuring Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and members of Rage Against the Machine, reunited onstage for the first time in nearly 12 years Friday night at the Anti-Inaugural Ball concert in Los Angeles.
“12 years is a long time comin’,” Cornell told the crowd at the Teragram Ballroom. Together, Audioslave performed three tracks off their 2002 self-titled debut LP, “Like a Stone,” “Cochise” and “Show Me How to Live.”
Cornell and his former band mates Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk last performed in concert together in November 2005. The supergroup broke up in February 2007, just months after the release of their third LP Revelations.
Audioslave is the second dormant side project Cornell has resurrected in recent months, following his brief reunion tour with Temple of the Dog. However, the Audioslave reunion is likely just a special one-off for the anti-Trump concert, as no plans for future concerts are expected.
The Anti-Inaugural Ball also featured a headlining performance by Morello, Commerford and Wilk’s current project Prophets of Rage – Audioslave’s previously announced reunion came midway through the Prophets’ set – as well as performances by Jackson Browne, Vic Mensa, Jack Black and the Los Angeles Freedom Choir.
“The Anti-Inaugural Ball is a celebration of resistance,” Morello said of the concert in a statement. “Resistance to racism. Resistance to sexism. Resistance to homophobia. Resistance to bullying. Resistance to environmental devastation. Resistance to fascism. Resistance to Donald Trump. We are staring down the barrel of a dystopian nightmare unless we act now, unless we fight back now.”
