15-1

Rock ‘n’ roll has never shied away from exploring dark and disturbing subjects, but it’s the songs that manage to do so using super infectious melodies that really stand out. There’s something off-putting and bizarrely brilliant about those tunes catchy enough to make listeners sing along to sick, sad or just plain creepy lyrics, oftentimes without realizing what they’re singing about. There are numerous examples, here 15 of them:

Rape me (Nirvana)
It’s not the first song Kurt Cobain wrote that’s ostensibly about the most heinous of sexual crimes — the acoustic cut ‘Polly’ off ‘Nevermind’ seems to tell a similar story of a defiant rape victim — but it is the only Nirvana song (and perhaps one of the few songs ever) to feature...

Celebrities Visit "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" - March 2, 2011

Back in October, Lemmy said he is “ready for death,” but the Motörhead singer might be having second thoughts. In a new interview, he reveals just how tough a time he’s had in dealing with being sidelined by his recent health issues.

“I just feel really down,” he told the New York Times. “I’ll never get a job again. I’m paying for the good times, I suppose. It’s a mixture of all the things I ever did — and I did plenty.”

Motörhead were forced to postpone their European tour in support of their new album, ‘Aftershock,’ due to a stretch of serious medical problems for the 67-year old frontman. A hematoma and heart issues in quick succession this past summer took them off the road...

One fan’s endlessly entertaining lip sync to Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ wasn’t just a hit on the Jumbotron during a recent Boston Celtics game. It has become a web sensation that has now sent the song back to the Billboard Hot 100 more than 25 years after its release.

‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ has remained Bon Jovi’s signature song since topping the charts more than a quarter century ago. But you’ve never seen it quite like this.

The clip, taken during what appears to be a commercial break during a basketball game, finds the intrepid performer at first simply enjoying the oft-played song about a working couple’s struggles. Then he spots the camera...

Most of us have been there: a drink or two to calm our nerves before a big this or that. Even rock stars get the jitters from time to time, believe it or not. But there’s a line between combating stage fright and getting so hammered that you forget the words to your biggest song once you’re onstage. It’s a line that should never be crossed. Unfortunately, these 15 Rock Stars Drunk on Stage didn’t get the memo.

KISS
There are plenty of rock ‘n’ roll moments in a Kiss show where the cold gin can kick in and take the performance to the next level. During the big ballad ‘Beth’ isn’t one of them. It’s the one time each night where Peter Criss got to step away from his drums and to the front of the stage...

Midwestern rockers Styx and REO Speedwagon will stage a benefit concert to aid central Illinois families impacted by the recent tornadoes and high winds that hit the area. The event, scheduled for Dec. 4 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, has been titled Rock to the Rescue.

“I believe that we need to take care of our own,” REO Speedwagon frontman and Illinois native Kevin Cronin said in a statement. “The people of Illinois are our own, and we are theirs.” As many as 16 people were killed on Nov. 17, when more than half-dozen twisters ripped through the area. Washington, near Peoria, saw as many as 500 homes damaged.

Additional special guest stars for the Bloomington benefit will be announced in the coming days...

On November 13, guitarist Wolf Hoffmann of reformed heavy metal legends ACCEPT was interviewed backstage before the band’s first-ever joint concert with SCORPIONS in Helsinki, Finland. A couple fragments follow:

On ACCEPT‘s most recent “comeback”, which began with 2010’s “Blood Of The Nations”:

Wolf: “When we started reactivating the band this three or four years ago, nobody had any idea if this would go anywhere — if it would die tomorrow. We just knew we wanted to play music again, and we found singer Mark Tornillo, and we thought, ‘here’s a chance for us to do what we love to do, and we’ll just see what happens’...

Skillet’s new album, “Rise”, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard album chart, selling 60,000 copies in its first week of release. The band’s ninth studio offering also debuted at No. 1 on both the Rock Albums and Christian Albums charts. The disc follows up 2009’s “Awake”, which premiered at a career-high No. 2 for the group and moved 68,000 copies in its first week.

Keyboard and guitar player Korey Cooper said that the band was perhaps more prepared to make this record than any of its others. “We kind of went in the studio knowing the arrangements we wanted, the sounds we wanted,” she said. “Most of my programming was done prior to the studio...

Personal items belonging to former model and actress Erin Everly, the ex-wife of reclusive GUNS N’ ROSES frontman Axl Rose, are being auctioned off through Julien’s Auctions. Among the items up for bidding are the couple’s marriage certificate, the actual wedding video, a domestic abuse report and break-up letters penned by Rose after the marriage didn’t work out — along with handwritten love letter and poems composed by the singer during happier times.

All the items are said to be from “the collection of Erin Everly,” with the list also including Axl Rose’s leather pants, the shirt he wore in the “Welcome To The Jungle” video and old backstage passes...
